On the Resolving Power of a Prism Spectrometer for the Infrared

چکیده

The resolving power of a spectrometer in the infrared is limited by the rate at which energy passes through the exit slit of the spectrometer. Calculation of the energy available for activating a thermocouple, under condition that the exit slit embrace the same frequency range Av of spectrum at all times, gives information on the attainable resolving power at various wave-lengths and with various prisms. The best dispersing angle for a sylvine prism to be used from 8 to 22μ is from 70° to 75°. A lamellar prism construction is described.

Coherent-radiation spectroscopy of few-femtosecond electron bunches using a middle-infrared prism spectrometer.

Modern, high-brightness electron beams such as those from plasma wakefield accelerators and free-electron laser linacs continue the drive to ever-shorter bunch durations. In low-charge operation (~20 pC), bunches shorter than 10 fs are reported at the Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS). Though suffering from a loss of phase information, spectral diagnostics remain appealing as compact, low-cost...

Optimizing irradiance estimates for coastal and inland water imaging spectroscopy

Next generation orbital imaging spectrometers, with advanced global remote sensing capabilities, propose to address outstanding ocean science questions related to coastal and inland water environments. These missions require highly accurate characterization of solar irradiance in the critical 380–600 nm spectral range. However, the irradiance in this spectral region is temporally variable and d...

Kinetic Modeling of Mass Transfer During Roasting of Soybeans Using Combined Infrared-Hot Air Heating

ABSTRACT: Roasting is one of the widespread methods for processing of nuts and beans that significantly enhances the flavor, color, texture and appearance of the products. In this research the kinetics and modeling of soybean roasting using combined infrared-hot air system and consumption of energy were investigated. The effect of the hot air temperature (160, 180 and 200 ºC), infrared powers (...

Electrospray ionization high-resolution ion mobility spectrometry-mass spectrometry.

A hybrid atmospheric pressure ion mobility spectrometer is described which exhibits resolving power approaching the diffusion limit for singly and multiply charged ions (over 200 for the most favorable case). Using an electrospray ionization source and a downstream quadrupole mass spectrometer with electron multiplier as detector, this ESI-IMS-MS instrument demonstrates the potential of IMS for...

The ISO Long-Wavelength Spectrometer

The Long-Wavelength Spectrometer (LWS) is one of two complementary spectrometers aboard the European Space Agency’s Infrared Space Observatory1 (ISO) (Kessler et al., 1996). It operates over the wavelength range 43 196:9 m at either medium (about 150 to 200) or high (6800 to 9700) spectral resolving power. This Letter describes the instrument and its modes of operation; a companion paper (Swiny...
